Kitazaki received his Master’s degree of Engineering from Kyoto University, Japan, in 1985, and Ph.D. from the University of Southampton, UK, in 1995. He had been working for Nissan Motor as a human factors researcher from 1985 till 2012. His research in Nissan included driver support systems, human machine interfaces, fatigued driving, car sickness, seating ergonomics, and human vibration. Between 2012 and 2015, Kitazaki was a professor in Neurology, University of Iowa, US, where he conducted research for safety of older drivers and drivers with medical problems. Kitazaki has been working in the current position since April 1st 2015. He also had been leading a national project, SIP-adus Human Factors Research Project, from September 2016 to March 2019. On-road communication of automated vehicles with other road users was one of the main issues of the project.
