Connected Wise is a University of Central Florida start-up that specializes in research, development, and commercialization of novel transportation technologies, including automated vehicle applications, vehicular communication, AI-assisted infrastructure assessment, transportation analytics, data security and blockchains. In collaboration with U.S. DOT, Connected Wise has recently developed a technology that allows receiving vehicular communication messages from traffic signs. Connected Wise's on-boad machine vision system is a viable technological for especially rural and underprivileged areas where wireless infrastructure coverage will be very limited. This technology essentially generates the same V2I messages that are typically sent from the roadside units (RSUs). The system recognizes the message identifiers placed on the road signs and activates the associated message while communicating with the vehicle’s on-board unit (OBU), and eliminates the need for wireless infrastructure.
