HydroVision International 2019

Session 1G: Water Without Borders: Conflicts and Challenges (Room B117-119)

From state to country border challenges, there are many examples of hydropower projects that are impacted by cross-border issues. Projects located on rivers that cross borders face challenges with multiple state agencies involved. When rivers cross borders, international negotiations require diplomacy to prevent conflicts. This session will include discussions on technical challenges ranging from water quality to competition for scarce water. The topics discussed include examples from the Pacific Northwest of the U.S. as well as international projects. Key areas of interest that will be discussed include social issues, environmental concerns, land ownership conflicts, water use, and food supply.
