WINDPOWER Conference & Exhibition 2019

Doing Business in Latin America (Room Collaboration Station)

The winds of change are blowing throughout wind energy markets in Latin America: recent elections in Mexico and Brazil present both risks and opportunities for the growing sector. With installations of more than 3 GW in 2018, the region continues to grow on the strength of successful competitive bidding schemes delivering low prices harvesting the region’s excellent wind resources. Brazil remains the regional leader with a 2 GW market in 2018, pushing the country’s total to more than 13 GW, and Mexico set a new record installing nearly 1 GW. The new Argentinian market based on the country’s RenovAr scheme saw its first substantial installations in 2018, and now all eyes are turned towards Colombia, the region’s newest market which is scheduled to hold its first tender later this month (February 2019).

With political upheaval in Brazil and Mexico, the region’s two largest markets, will mean changes for the wind sector. Join GWEC’s Doing Business in Latin America session, chaired by GWEC’s Ramon Fiestas to hear from expert analysts about both the positive and negative trends in some of the world’s fastest growing markets.
